How to Get to Burgau

Fly into Faro International Airport and rent a car for the scenic 1.5-hour drive west along the coast. Alternatively, buses and trains from Lisbon and other major cities can get you to nearby Lagos, from where you can take a local bus or taxi to Burgau.

Best Time to Visit Burgau

The ideal time to visit is between May and September when temperatures range from 70°F to 85°F (21°C to 29°C). Spring and fall offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds, while summer brings a bustling beach scene. We visited during the summer and experienced manageable crowds, minimal wait times for restaurants, and weather to be warm but not too hot.

The average water temperature ranges from 65°F (18°C) in spring to 73°F (23°C) in summer. However, that can vary based on currents and weather conditions – we were surprised by how cold the ocean was during July!

Q: Is Burgau beach kid-friendly?
Yes, Burgau Beach features calm waters, ideal for families with young children. The beach is very wide, sand is nice and soft but can get hot to the touch during the summer, so be sure to have some sandals for the young ones to keep their feet from getting too warm.

Q: Do you need a car in Burgau?
While you can walk around the village, a car is recommended to explore nearby beaches and attractions. We parked our car at the hotel and strolled around town easily – all Burgau restaurants and attractions are accessible by walking.

Q What are some nearby places to explore?
Visit Lagos for its historic sites or Sagres for rugged coastal landscapes.

Q: Are there any local events in summer?
Burgau often hosts small beach parties and local markets, especially in July and August, making those the best months to visit.
