Best Hotels for Families of 5 (Hotels Where 5 People Can Stay in One Room)

Traveling as a family of five has been one of the most rewarding parts of our lives. It has also taught us something very practical: finding a hotel room that comfortably fits five people isn’t always easy.

If you’ve ever searched online for hotels with two adults and three kids, you’ve probably seen this message that instantly complicates travel planning: “This room is not available for your party size.”

Most hotel rooms are designed for four guests. Add a third child and suddenly the options become limited — often forcing families to book two rooms or upgrade to expensive suites.

After traveling to more than 65 countries, we’ve learned through experience which hotels actually work well for families of five. Along the way, we’ve had our share of learning moments – smaller beds than expected, pull-out sofas that weren’t quite as comfortable as advertised, and even a night or two where someone ended up sleeping on the floor.

But those experiences also helped us discover the hotel brands that consistently make family travel easier.

At Pure Life Podcast, we’re always looking for accommodations that allow families to stay comfortably together in one room without sacrificing the quality of the experience.

Whether you’re planning:

  • ✈️ a Japan itinerary
  • 🏝️ a Caribbean beach vacation
  • 🚗 a USA road trip or
  • 🌍 a European adventure

These are some of the best hotels for families of five, where everyone can stay comfortably in one room.

Why Finding Hotel Rooms for 5 People Is So Difficult

Most standard hotel rooms are built with four guests in mind. Typically that means:

  • two queen or double beds
  • maximum occupancy limits of four guests
  • limited rollaway beds
  • booking systems that automatically block larger families

For families traveling with three kids, this can make booking hotels surprisingly complicated. In destinations like Japan, the challenge can feel even greater because hotel rooms are often smaller by design.

However, over years of travel we’ve discovered several hotel brands that work beautifully for families — especially apartment-style hotels, villa accommodations, and Japanese room layouts designed for groups.

Two of our personal favorites in Japan are Mimaru Apartment Hotels and Hoshino Resorts (especially the OMO and RISONARE collections), both of which offer layouts that work especially well for families traveling together.

Best Hotel Chains for Families of 5 (Tested by Our Family)

The hotel brands below consistently make it easier to book hotel rooms for five people across destinations like Japan, the United States, Europe, and beach resorts around the world.

Some offer suite layouts or villas, while others specialize in apartment-style accommodations or flexible bedding arrangements.

Each of these options has worked well for our family over the years — and they continue to be some of the most reliable choices when traveling with three kids.
